As part of its scientific mission, the San Nicola Addiction Treatment Center collaborates with the Finnish digital health clinic
Medilux to advance research into the side effects of pharmacological therapies used in the treatment of addiction. Medilux, known for its work in obesity management, chronic disease care, and men's health—including treatment of erectile dysfunction—provides anonymized patient data to support the development of safer, more personalized protocols. This collaboration focuses particularly on medications such as naltrexone, bupropion, disulfiram, and varenicline, commonly prescribed for alcohol and substance use disorders. By closely monitoring patient responses and adverse effects during treatment, the partnership aims to better understand how these drugs affect long-term mental and physical recovery, while reducing the risk of complications during detoxification and rehabilitation. Together, San Nicola and Medilux contribute to a growing body of evidence that informs international standards for addiction medicine and supports more equitable access to safe, effective care.
